Deoxycholate Citrate Agar

Deoxycholate Citrate Agar (DCA) is a selective medium, modified from Leifson’s Desoxycholate Agar formulation, designed for the isolation and investigation of pathogenic enteric bacteria.

The medium is particularly effective for the recovery of Salmonella species and many Shigella species from clinical and environmental samples. Its selective properties inhibit Gram-positive organisms, while allowing the growth of Gram-negative enteric pathogens, facilitating their differentiation based on colony characteristics.
